NEW ALBANY, Ind. —

The BreakAway, located in New Albany, has been helping women rebuild their lives since 2017, and now the organization hopes to double its capacity with the addition of a second property to use as a home for women in recovery.

The New Albany Plan Commission recently recommended granting a special use exception for the newly acquired property, a step that could allow Breakaway to serve nearly twice as many women. The facility currently houses up to 14 women, who typically stay for six to nine months while working to overcome addiction, find jobs, and secure permanent housing.

Lisa Livingston, the founder and executive director of BreakAway, expressed her gratitude for the support from the city.
