SALEM, Ore. — The Oregon Senate’s vote on a bill to fund the state’s transportation system has been postponed again as a Democratic lawmaker continues to recover from health complications.

Earlier this month, the Oregon House passed the bill largely along party lines. The legislation is intended to prevent hundreds of layoffs and service cuts at the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and transit agencies across the state after the original transportation package failed during this year’s regular session.

The Senate vote was delayed because Sen. Chris Gorsek, D-Gresham, an expected “yes” vote, is still recovering from complications following back surgery in August. He had planned to return Sept. 17.
