Scriba, N.Y. — Firefighters from across Oswego County were called to a massive fire at the Novelis aluminum plant in Scriba Tuesday night.

The fire started around 10:15 p.m. at 448 County Route 1A, according to Oswego County 911 dispatches. Firefighters declared a third alarm, bringing in mutual aid from nearly 20 departments across the county and neighboring counties.

Departments from Altmar, Brewerton, Cody, Fulton, Lacona, Minetto, Mexico, New Haven, Oswego City, Oswego Town, Orwell, Palermo, Parish, Pulaski, Redfield, Richland, Sandy Creek, Scriba, Volney and Williamstown responded, along with fire coordinators and a Menter Ambulance.

Flames and heavy smoke were coming from the plant’s roof, according to dispatches. Additional departments were called in to bring more water.
