A father has been left paralysed following a freak accident during a family break in Ibiza. David Hayes, 37, was in an induced coma for several weeks after breaking his spine whilst diving into the sea on the Spanish island.

Doctors have confirmed the dad-of-two is now quadriplegic - permanently paralysed from the chest down with no movement in his limbs - following a fracture to his C5 vertebra and damage to the C4-C6 section of his spinal cord.

The summer holiday had been arranged for his wife Elly, who has recently received a cancer diagnosis. Elly must now balance radiotherapy sessions, caring for their children, daily hospital visits to David's bedside and continuing to run their businesses.
