Hearts star Kenneth Vargas has returned to Costa Rica to complete a short-term loan move to his former club.

The 23-year-old forward is signing for CS Herediano back in his homeland until January.

Vargas moved to Tynecastle from Herediano in 2023, initially on a season-long loan before the move was made permanent the following summer.

He has scored 14 goals in 83 appearances across all competitions for the Edinburgh club.

Hearts confirmed the move, which is subject to SFA approval and international clearance, on Wednesday.

A statement posted to social media said: “We can confirm that Kenneth Vargas has returned to Costa Rica to complete a short-term loan move, subject to SFA approval and international clearance.
