The partner of a deceased woman is in custody after an alleged domestic violence incident in a suburban area near Darwin.

Northern Territory Police received reports about 10:30pm on Tuesday that a woman was unresponsive on the front yard of a property on Waterhouse Crescent, Driver in Palmerston.

The 31-year-old woman was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital after emergency services arrived but was later pronounced dead, police said in a statement.

Her 32-year-old male partner has since been arrested and is in custody.

The incident has been described as an alleged domestic violence related death.

Domestic Violence and Major Crime Command are involved in a major police probe as a crime scene remains in place.
