Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson Jessie Kabwila has urged Malawians not to believe propaganda circulating on social media suggesting that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is leading in the ongoing vote count.

Kabwila has made the remarks on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 17, during a press briefing held at the party’s headquarters in Lilongwe.

She stressed that only the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has the mandate to announce the official winner of the presidential election, not speculation. Kabwila expressed confidence that MCP will secure victory with “70+1” of the vote.

“We are a Champions League team. Don’t compare us with the small football village teams like DPP. They are kids compared to us,” Kabwila said, dismissing DPP’s claims.
