The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has cautioned the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to respect the will of Malawians and avoid making statements that could trigger instability as the nation awaits official election results.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lilongwe, DPP National Organising Secretary Sameer Suleman questioned MCP’s contradictory stance on election results.
“They are the ones telling Malawians to wait for MEC to announce official results, yet they are also claiming victory. Which one should Malawians believe? Respect the people,” Suleman said.
Former cabinet minister Ben Phiri also applauded Malawians for turning out in large numbers to vote, saying the ballot box has become the people’s true demonstration ground.
