A tropical depression that formed over the Atlantic Ocean Wednesday morning is expected to become the 2025 hurricane season's next named storm, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Located more than 1,000 miles east-southeast of the Northern Leeward Islands, Tropical Depression 7 was producing sustained winds of 35 mph and moving west at 13 mph as of 4 a.m.

The NHC's latest forecast track shows the depression becoming a tropical storm by Thursday morning, then eventually reaching hurricane strength over the weekend. If it does form, the storm would be called Gabrielle and mark the seventh named storm of 2025.
