Mental health history, past fears cited in fatal shooting of David Jewell; suspect held without bond.

A Circle K clerk in Ormond-by-the-Sea allegedly confessed to shooting and killing an off-duty Edgewater Police Officer because he was “having a bad day,” according to authorities.

The suspect, Eduardo Labrada Machado, 24, was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on Monday, Sept. 15, on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Officer David Jewell, 45.

According to a statement from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, Machado confessed to the murder.
