Owensboro residents living within city limits are now allowed to have backyard chickens.

The new ordinance passed with a 3-2 vote in last night’s Board of Commissioners meeting.

Since May, those passionate about having chickens have been attending city commission meetings to plead their case.

The ordinance comes with many restrictions and guidelines.

These include the type of coop the chickens are kept in, cleaning, and the number of chickens allowed.

Permits can be revoked if the policies are not followed.
