Several private providers of special education put Connecticut students’ safety at risk by not following proper procedures and requirements, a recent audit shows .
Some schools failed to conduct statutorily required background checks, properly train staff in restraint and seclusion protocols and failed to deliver services required by student individualized education programs, according to the audit.
The state Department of Education said it is carefully reviewing the findings and recommendations to determine appropriate next steps.
