If you’re in downtown Peoria, stop by Hanai, the nonprofit café inside Peoria City Hall, 8401 W. Monroe Street.

Hanai, Hawaiian for chosen family, employs youth in transitional housing or youth that have aged out of foster care, and 100% of Hanai’s proceeds support the nonprofit Friends of Ohana. Hanai trains and hires about 50 foster youth every year, giving them paid job experience and real-world skills.

Hanai City Hall is open 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday.

The menu features espresso, cold brew, teas, refreshers, frappes, and energy drinks. There is also a variety of baked goods, acai bowls, breakfast sandwiches, waffles with toppings, lunch sandwiches & wraps, as well as salads.
