A 31-year-old mother in Florida will spend a decade behind bars for leaving her 8-month-old daughter to drown unattended in the bath, then lying and claiming the child had somehow drowned in their dog's water bowl.
Collier County Circuit Judge John McGowan on Tuesday ordered Nicole Laber to serve 10 years in prison for her role in the infant's death, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show. Following her incarceration, Laber will be on probation for another 10 years.
McGowan handed down the sentence after Laber pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated manslaughter of a child. He credited Laber with 669 days of time served.
According to a probable cause affidavit, deputies at about 7:40 a.m. on June 17, 2023, responded to Laber's home in the 1300 block of Everglades Boulevard in Naples
