A student athlete has been left paralyzed after suffering a horror injury in his first ever game.

Ju'Lius Byers was seriously injured in his first high school match for Liberty High School in Missouri.

The freshman suffered a “devastating spinal injury” in a game earlier this month, according to Fox affiliate WDAF-TV.

He was rushed to hospital and underwent two emergency surgeries.

The 14-year-old is now partially paralyzed after suffering three fractures in his neck, a concussion, and an incomplete spinal cord injury.

However he is able to walk and is expected to be discharged from hospital before undergoing rehab.

He told the radio station: "I remember getting off the block, I get hit, and then I kind of blacked out a little bit, and then I woke up.
