WASHINGTON — Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor called for more robust civic education in the U.S. and a strengthened discourse about it between parents and children as she discussed whether Americans fully know the difference between a king and a president.

”Do we understand what the difference is between a king and a president?” Sotomayor asked while speaking on a panel at New York Law School. " ... I think if people understood these things from the beginning, they would be more informed as to what would be important in a democracy, in terms of what people can or should not do.”
