Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a shooting that killed a 4-year-old boy inside his home in southwest Charlotte early Wednesday.
The authorities did not immediately release the boy’s identity.
According to initial reports, the boy died shortly after 6 a.m. when someone shot into his home while stealing a car outside. The home is inside a townhouse complex in the 2200 block of Cigar Court, near South Tryon Street and Carowinds.
Major Ryan Kendall of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department told reporters on the scene that a black Dodge Charger with red brake calipers was stolen during the shooting.
Kendall said the home was not struck randomly. “These were fired directly, intentionally into this residence for reasons we don’t know.”
