Ben & Jerry’s has always been about more than ice cream.
The Vermont company, founded in 1978 by Jerry Greenfield and Ben Cohen in Burlington , is known for activism. Under “Issues We Care About,” on the ice cream maker’s website, you can find subjects like racial justice, climate change, democracy and refugee rights.
Now, Greenfield is stepping down from the company he helped create because, he said, Ben & Jerry’s parent company, Unilever, is no longer allowing Ben & Jerry’s to speak out about those values.
