[CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa] — Witness testimony has begun in the trial of Dakota Van Patten, following opening statements earlier today. Van Patten is charged with the murder of Melody Hoffman last year, whose body was discovered at Lily Lake in Amana.

McKinley Louisma, another man charged in Hoffman's death, was found guilty in his trial last November and received a life sentence.
