Douglas Manship Jr., former publisher of The Advocate, and grandson of the founder of the newspaper's publishing company, has died, WBRZ-TV, the Baton Rouge station operated by Manship Media, reported Wednesday.

Manship was 82.

Manship was a grandson of Charles Manship Sr., who founded Capital City Press in 1909 with a business partner, James Edmonds, and later bought out Edmond to become the sole owner.

Douglas "Doug" Manship was one of the four Manship grandchildren to run the company until selling it to the Georges Media Group in 2012.

Doug Manship Jr. held several roles at The Advocate over the years, working as its correspondent in Washington and going on to work as news feature editor, editorial writer and director of the newspaper's online operation.
