Survivor shines light on the illness
Five years ago, Rachel Sackett Putman was diagnosed with Stage 3A low-grade serous ovarian cancer, a rare and chronic disease with few treatment options and an 85% recurrence rate.
But she fought back, won her battle and made it a goal to bring attention to the illness through proclamations at towns and cities throughout the Valley.
In honor of her fight and to bring awareness to ovarian cancer, at the Sept. 11 public meeting, the Town of Paradise Valley proclaimed the month of September 2025 as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
Sackett Putman, a Scottsdale resident, said her journey has been filled with loss and resilience, but also with purpose.
