MAMOU, La. (KLFY) -- A dispute involving a Mamou city councilman accusing a citizen of trespassing, and a counteraccusation of the councilman impeding travel, is still under investigation, authorities said.

Mamou City Councilman Derrell Thomas made a complaint Sept. 5 against Rufus Searile, claiming that Searile trespassed on his family’s property. Searile denies the accusation, and said he was on the street the entire time but is facing a warrant for criminal trespassing.

In a post on the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office Facebook page, Sheriff Charles R. Guillory said there was no such warrant.
