JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The League of Women Voters (LWV) chapter of Northeast Tennessee observed Constitution Day on Wednesday by handing out free pocket Constitutions and information at libraries around the Tri-Cities.

Constitution Day is a federal observance that commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by 37 Constitutional Convention delegates on September 17, 1787. It shares a holiday with Citizenship Day, which celebrates naturalized citizens in America.

The LWV is a national "nonpartisan political organization which encourages the informed and active participation in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy," the organization's website states.
