MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — New York City health officials have identified more cases of measles in SoHo and the Lower East Side, according to Commissioner Dr. Michelle Morse.

In an interview with PIX11 News on Wednesday morning, Dr. Morse said the total number of cases has risen to four related to the exposure in Lower Manhattan.

Measles is a contagious illness that causes a fever and rash, health officials said. Symptoms include a cough, fever, runny nose, and red, watery eyes.

The initial reporting of two cases confirmed in the area on Monday has now doubled. On the NYC Health Department website, there are 13 confirmed cases.
