PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Rhode Island basketball coach is facing assault charges after an incident during a game over the weekend.
Christopher Cherry, 37, of Warwick, turned himself in on Wednesday on an active arrest warrant connected to a reported assault on Saturday.
The incident was caught on video, which has been circulating online, and Cherry is allegedly seen holding what appears to be a knife.
"It was a really disturbing video and obviously an unacceptable act of violence. And one of our spaces that is supposed to be safe," Mayor Brett Smiley told 12 News. "This was not youth-involved, but nevertheless, it's behavior that should not be acceptable and will not be tolerated. And all appropriate measures are being taken."
