MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A convicted rapist is facing new rape charges after police say he was found with a 13-year-old girl.

Police responded to a call on Fontaine Avenue in Whitehaven on September 9 where they found 32-year-old Jermaine Edwards and a 13-year-old girl.

The girl told police Edwards raped her.

Officers searched his personal belongings and found baggies of marijuana and a 40 caliber handgun.

Edwards was arrested and charged with aggravated rape, possessing a handgun as a convicted felon and possession of a controlled substance.

According to the police affidavit, Edwards was previously sentenced to eight years in prison for rape in 2007 and served time on drug charges in 2019.
