FRONT ROYAL — The Warren County Board of Supervisors redistributed the remainder of $1.024 million originally allocated for county library services to other departments Tuesday evening, effectively defunding Samuels Public Library.
Supervisors approved funding for library services June 10 as part of the current fiscal budget, but did not designate a recipient for those funds.
Earlier in the year, the board opted not to renew an operating agreement with Samuels Public Library and instead sought a library service provider through a Request for Proposal process. Though some supervisors believed the county could save money through that process, the winning bidder charged the exact amount requested by Samuels and later backed out of contract negotiations.
