Shark warning signs have been posted at Pokai Bay in West Oahu after a 10-foot shark was seen about 10 to 50 yards from shore.

Honolulu Ocean Safety issued an HNL Alert shortly after 11 a.m. today about the shark sighting.

“If you see of encounter a shark notify Ocean Safety personnel or call 911 immediately,” said the alert. “Always check with a lifeguard for the latest ocean and beach conditions.”

The public can sign up for HNL Alerts by visiting hnlalert.gov or texting “HNLALERT” to 888777 to subscribe to safety alerts.
