BOSTON (WPRI) — An endangered giraffe calf born at Franklin Park Zoo last month has been successfully reunited with his family following treatment for health complications.

Shortly after his birth on Aug. 7, the baby Masai giraffe had trouble nursing and was moved to the Hospital for Large Animals at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. There, he received vital treatments and learned how to drink from a bottle.

The calf was allowed to return to Franklin Park Zoo on Aug. 19 after showing significant improvement.

Zoo New England described reintroducing the baby with his mother, Amari, as a "lengthy process," noting that she was initially hesitant.
