FORT MILL — A giant snake is now greeting visitors at the Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mil l, with its head towering 10 feet in the air.
But have no fear. His name is Chris, he’s made of metal and he’s one of the centerpieces of an art project being showcased at the nature preserve in partnership with the Charlotte International Arts Festival .
“Forest Forms” is a collection of metal work by Atlanta-based artist Huelani Mei . The greenway is the fifth display location for Mei’s steel statues, which include Chris the snake, a family of five foxes, exotic birds and more.
That makes the nature park a perfect place for the display, said Lindsey Arnautovic, vice president of operations for Leroy Springs & Co., which oversees the nonprofit greenway.
