ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Sgt. Chuck McPhilamy with the Marietta Police Department says people leaving pets in hot cars happens far too often.

“Even with your windows cracked, the temperature inside the vehicle can skyrocket and the dog simply doesn’t have the ability to protect itself from that,” Sgt. McPhilamy said.

Marietta police recently arrested a woman, identified as Imani Water, after she allegedly left her dog in the back of a rental van while she went to work.

“They had just moved to the area. They said that they didn’t have a good way of maintaining the dog and so they brought them to work,” Sgt. McPhilamy said.

According to a police report, a good Samaritan spotted the black and white Pitbull in the back of the van parked off Church Street and called 911.
