ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Heard County man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for shooting and killing an unarmed man in 2023, according to the Carroll County district attorney.

The district attorney said Brody Nichols shot and killed Hunter Barrows on Dec. 27, 2023. According to the district attorney, both Nichols and Barrows had been in relationships with the same woman. Nichols was living with the woman at the time, but she had told him to move out.

Barrows went to the house while Nichols was gathering his things, and Nichols grabbed a gun and shot Barrows 12 times. The district attorney said the shooting happened in front of Barrows’ 3-year-old daughter.

Nichols was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and first-degree cruelty to children. He was sentenced to 35 yea
