RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Layoffs will be taking place at PBS North Carolina, the network said Wednesday.

According to PBS NC, the reduction in employees was due to a budget shortfall prompted by federal funding cuts, possible state funding cuts, and an increase in operational costs.

"These decisions are difficult," PBS NC CEO and general manager David Crabtree said in a statement. "Every person who works here has played an important role in shaping who we are as an organization. We are committed to treating them with the dignity and respect they deserve throughout this transition."

According to PBS NC, the employees affected by the "involuntary Reduction in Force program" will be notified by Sept. 24.
