OAKRIDGE, Ore. - Firefighters are making progress in containing the Emigrant Fire, focusing on mop up and patrol efforts along the northern and eastern perimeters, according to Willamette National Forest officials.
Crews are using machinery like the Skidgen to navigate tough terrains and aid in mop up operations. On the southern and eastern sides, they're reinforcing lines by transporting woody material and using chipping and masticating techniques. A transition of command will occur Thursday, with the Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 1 taking over from California Complex Incident Management Team 3. This ensures a smooth handoff and maintains safety and effectiveness. The fire is currently burning 32,358 acres and is 38% contained, forest officials said.
