ONTARIO, Ore. — Two students are in custody at a juvenile detention center in Malheur County after authorities said they brought handguns to Ontario High School on Wednesday morning.
The Ontario Police Department said in a news release they received a tip at 7:50 a.m. that a 16-year-old male student was potentially in possession of a handgun while on school property. Another male student was found with a handgun in his backpack.
The Ontario School District confirmed the incident and stated they were able to "contain" that student before he entered the building, according to a 10 a.m. email to community members.
No threats were made to students, faculty or staff. The district said school resumed as planned for the day.
