McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Lumberton resident is scheduled for his detention hearing following his arrest for kidnapping two minors and taking them to Mexico, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.

Luis Angel Rodriguez, 30, is scheduled to go before Magistrate Judge Scott Hacker at 1 p.m. on Sept. 19.

An indictment, returned in August, alleges that on or Sept. 1, 2024, Carolina Rodriguez and Luis kidnapped two minors under the age of 16 and took them to Mexico, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's.

Authorities located the children and reunited them with their guardians.

In June, Carolina was arrested and charged. She remains in custody.

If convicted, Luis and Carolina face up to three years in federal prison and up to a $250,000 fine.
