Petrol-electric hybrid versions of Toyota’s LandCruiser 300 Series are on the way with a boost in performance compared to the diesel, but don’t expect huge fuel economy gains.

Toyota Australia’s LandCruiser will be available with a “no compromise” petrol-electric hybrid from March next year in the two highest-spec grades – Sahara ZX and GR Sport.

Differentiating it from the 227kW/700Nm 3.3-litre turbo-diesel version, Toyota will fit the LandCruiser Hybrid with the same 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 hybrid as the Tundra full-sized US pick-up.

In the Tundra, it produces 326kW/790Nm, but Toyota Australia is yet to confirm final outputs for the LandCruiser Hybrid as localisation and homologation is still underway.
