HOUSTON , Texas (KBTX) - While most will remember Nate Boerkircher’s contested catch in the end zone as the highlight moment of Texas A&M’s 41-40 win at Notre Dame Saturday, it was kicker Randy Bond who tallied the game-winning point.
A botched point after attempt by Notre Dame on the drive prior left the door open for the Aggies to clinch the win with seven points, requiring Bond to send his A&M record-breaking 124th consecutive point-after attempt through the uprights.
However, Bond was an unexpected starter prior to Saturday’s opening kick. After loosing the position to Jared Zirkel out of fall camp, Bond was called into duty Saturday after Zirkel suffered a groin injury, head coach Mike Elko said on the Southeastern Conference Coaches Teleconference Wednesday.
