DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - A Marshalltown man was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for methamphetamine and gun charges.
Court documents say 39-year-old Matthew Sumpter had a loaded handgun, almost one pound of methamphetamine, a scale, and cash in his possession.
After further investigation, authorities say Sumpter distributed many pounds of methamphetamine in the Marshalltown area.
According to court documents, he has multiple previous felony convictions, including illegal possession of a firearm, harassment, domestic abuse assault by strangulation, and several instances of eluding law enforcement.
Sumpter was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison along with a five-year supervised release following imprisonment.
