Dozens of Palmer High School and Widefield D-3 students walked out of class Wednesday to protest gun violence in schools, calling for district officials implement more safety measures such as providing mental health screenings for students who seem troubled.
The demonstrations come after two students were critically injured by a shooter at Evergreen High School in Jefferson County on Sept. 10 and authorities arrested two students and confiscated a gun at Mesa Ridge High School on Friday.
"We want change. We want you to listen to us," Michelangelo Krewson, a Palmer High senior, told The Gazette. "We don't want it to be dismissed (as) 'Oh they're just skipping class.' 'Oh, they're kids.'"
