A man has died following a shooting in Clissold Park, Stoke Newington, on Wednesday evening, September 17. The incident occurred shortly after 7pm, leaving a woman in her 40s injured and requiring hospital treatment.
Emergency services, including the Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, and the London Air Ambulance, were dispatched to the scene at 7.06pm. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, the man, also in his 40s, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead in hospital.
A spokesperson for the Met Police confirmed that a firearm believed to be involved in the shooting has been recovered from the park. The police are currently working to identify the victim's next of kin.
Detective Superintendent Oliver Richter, overseeing policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, stated that initial investigations suggest the man and woman were known to each other. He described the incident as an "isolated event" and reassured the public that there is no wider threat.
Richter remarked, "We understand this is a deeply distressing incident for those involved, the witnesses in the park, and the community in the surrounding area. We are in the early stages of the investigation, but we believe the man and woman are known to one another."
A crime scene has been established, and police presence in the area has been increased as investigations continue. The condition of the injured woman remains unknown as authorities await further updates.
