The Chief of Police and Police Captain for the Bethany Beach Police Department have been sentenced after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars by lying on their time sheets, officials said.

Former Chief Michael Redmon, 58, and former Captain Darin Cathell, 50, claimed they jointly worked over 1,500 hours of overtime when it was found that they did not, according to the Delaware District Attorney's Office.

Redmond claimed to have worked over 760 hours of overtime and collected at least $81,890, officials said. Meanwhile, Cathell said he worked over 800 hours of overtime and took home over $67,970.

The two men are accused of faking their recorded overtime for several years before they were caught.
