LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Public Schools is expanding its Welcome Center for English Learners program, bringing more service coordinators together under one roof.

On Wednesday, LPS hosted an open house at the center, near 70th and Vine streets, to showcase the facility and share its work with community members.

The Welcome Center provides language assessments to determine whether students qualify for English Learner services and helps families connect with additional LPS resources.

“When those families come to the Welcome Center, some of those additional staff are here to also provide them some assistance as part of their appointments,” said Laura Salem, supervisor of the English Language Program.
