SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s office announced on Wednesday the conviction of Alexis Federico Marquez, 24.

According to the office, Marquez is convicted of first-degree murder and first-degree aggravated robbery, connected to a shooting in August of 2022.

A press release from the office said Marquez was found to have shot Remey Rowland while trying to buy cocaine.

The release stated that Marquez showed up to Rowland’s car with $1,300 in fake money used for movie productions. During the trial, Marquez claimed that Rowland attempted to take the fake money from Marquez and pointed a gun at him.

The release states that a second gun was not recovered during the investigation.

Alexis Federico Marquez is set to be sentenced on Jan. 6, 2026.
