HAMMOND, Ind. (WNDU) - A 22-year-old Hammond man has been arrested on several child porn possession charges stemming from an investigation that began in California.

Indiana State Police say they arrested 22-year-old Rogelio Herrera Jr. on Tuesday on an outstanding warrant issued by the Porter County Sheriff’s Department.

According to police, it all started when the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office got a report about an unknown person communicating with an 11-year-old boy via several social media platforms.

The child was determined to be safe, as police say no physical contact was ever made. But the case was transferred to the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Unit after investigators learned that communications originated in the Hoosier State.
