NORFOLK, Va. — There was a packed room at the Norfolk School Board meeting on Wednesday evening as parents and community members made their voices heard about the city's school consolidation plan.

The Norfolk School Board has a proposal on the table to close or repurpose more than a dozen schools in the city. 13News Now counted 26 people who spoke at the meeting, as people's words ranged from defending their school staying open to how the board should move forward with pieces of the plan.

But when school board chair Sarah DiColegero asked for a motion to adopt the proposal, there were crickets.

It turned out that there was strong opposition to the option on the table, which would not have presented solid dates for actual school closures.
