Picked second in the Mountain East Conference women's soccer coaches’ preseason poll behind archrival University of Charleston, West Virginia State proved polls don’t carry a lot of weight.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-0 in MEC play on Wednesday with a 2-0 win over the Golden Eagles at Welch Athletic Complex, the second straight victory for WVSU over UC at the WAC’s Elliott Field.

After the Yellow Jackets took an MEC tournament win over UC at the WAC last season, WVSU scored a goal in each half Wednesday to improve to 2-2 overall.
