MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- As Memphis awaits the arrival of the National Guard, some city council members are moving to put a stop to them coming to the city.
Thursday at City Hall, we are expecting to learn more about a formal act of opposition to the arrival of troops in Memphis. The new resolution is sponsored by several city council members, including JB Smiley, Jerri Green, Jeff Warren, and Pearl Walker.
If passed, it would urge Governor Bill Lee to reject President Donald Trump's current proposal to send troops to the bluff city.
Councilmember Green believes this act is not a solution and distracts from the real issues. Meanwhile, councilman Smiley believes these are Memphis problems that shouldn't be solved by those outside of the community.
