CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — This morning, Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos will join officials from Cumberland EMS and the Rhode Island Blood Center for the launch of a new blood transfusion program.

For the first time, in the Ocean State, paramedics will have the tools and resources to perform a blood transfusion before taking a patient to the hospital.

Officials hope this will help those critically injured in shootings or accidents.

EMS officials will perform a demonstration of the new transfusion during the 10 a.m. unveiling at the Cumberland public safety complex.
