Howie Mandel is opening up for the first time about his grandson being diagnosed with leukemia.
The comedian and television personality discussed his grandson’s health struggles over the last few years during an appearance on the “ In Depth with Graham Bensinger” podcast . For a portion of the interview, which was released Sept. 17, Mandel was joined by his daughter Jackelyn Shultz, who became emotional as she recalled the moment she was told her son was sick. Shultz is mother to son Axel and daughter Abbey .
“(My grandson’s) issue is an autoimmune issue, right? It’s leukemia,” Mandel shared while seated next to his daughter. “In fact, that’s the first time we’ve ever talked about it on camera.”
